In April 2018 I walked into Wally Meyer’s office at the University of Kansas, weeks from graduating with a finance degree, and told him I wanted to mine asteroids.
He said he loved it. Then he said he thought it was going to take a lot longer than I thought.
He was right, and he was being kind about it. I had no company, no plan, no technical background, and no idea how anyone would go about extracting anything from a rock moving through space at fifteen kilometers per second. What I had was a conviction that the resources are out there and that someone was going to go get them.
The dream is free. That is the whole point of it. It costs nothing to want something enormous, which is why wanting it proves nothing, and why the only thing that counts afterward is how long you are willing to keep showing up for it.
This is the first entry in that record.
Graduation
The University of Kansas, spring 2018. The end of one thing, and no idea yet how to begin the next.
