Ground-based surveys tell us where asteroids are. IRIS tells us what they are made of. By reading spectra from above the atmosphere, IRIS turns iSEE’s top candidates from statistical bets into characterized targets.
Why It Matters
A prospector is expensive to send to the wrong rock. IRIS is the cheapest way to make sure DOWSER flies to the right one.
